About CareWatch
CareWatch was launched in April 2026 by E tū, the union for workers in the residential aged care sector. It is a tool for aged care workers, care recipients/residents, and their whānau to report what is really happening in the sector across New Zealand.
The aim is to identify the impact of a health and safety failure in the delivery of quality care. People identify issues every day, and often the cause is fairly clear, but it is often not reported to be taken seriously. It is really important that we draw attention to the causes of issues so that government, providers, workers, and the wider community can address these problems, and we can build a care system that provides support to those who need it, while also providing decent work for those who provide it.
A huge issue is that there simply are not enough people employed to do the work. It can put both workers and clients in dangerous situations and lead to stress and burnout. We need adequate staffing, and safe systems of work. By recording incidents via CareWatch you will be contributing to building a better care system in Aotearoa.
