Incident management for Aotearoa care facilities

Carewatch was launched in November 2025 by E tū the union for workers in the care sector. It is a tool for care and support workers, care recipients and their whanau to report what is really happening in the sector across New Zealand.

The aim is to identify the impact of a failure to invest adequately invest in the delivery of quality care. People identify issues every day and often the cause is fairly clear. It is really important that we draw attention to the causes of issues so that government, providers, workers and the wider community can address those problems and we can build a care system that provides support to those who need it, while also providing decent work for those who provide it.

A huge issue is that there simply aren’t enough people employed to do the work. It can put both workers and clients in dangerous situations and lead to stress and burnout. We need adequate staffing, and safe systems of work. By recording incidents Via Carewatch you will be contributing to building a better care system in Aotearoa.
